What Can You Donate to the Bavs Reuse Hub?

The Bavs Reuse Hub exists for one simple reason: to keep good furniture and household items out of landfill and back into the homes of people who need them.

We do get asked a lot — what exactly can I bring? So here’s your definitive guide.

Our golden rule

All items must be clean, in good working order and ready for resale. Ask yourself “Would I buy this?” — if the answer is no, it’s off to the recycling centre it goes.

Items we love to receive

We accept a wide range of pre-loved items, including:

  • Sofas (with fire safety labels)
  • Furniture — tables, chairs, wardrobes, chests of drawers
  • Soft furnishings — cushions, curtains, throws (with fire labels)
  • Bric-a-brac and ornaments
  • Books, DVDs, CDs and Vinyl
  • Household items and kitchenware
  • Small electricals (PAT tested)
  • White goods — washing machines, fridges, freezers

Fire safety labels

All upholstered furniture — sofas, armchairs, cushions, and similar items — must have the appropriate fire safety labels attached. This is a legal requirement for resale, so unfortunately we can’t accept upholstered items without them, no matter how good the condition.

What we can’t accept

  • Mattresses
  • Bedframes
  • TV units
  • Gas cookers
  • Upholstered items without fire safety labels
  • Clothing (please donate to one of our charity shops instead)
  • Damaged, heavily stained, or incomplete items

Arranging a collection

Have furniture or household items you’d like to donate? We may be able to collect them from you.

To arrange a collection, email reuse@bavs.org.uk with:

  • Clear photos of the items you’d like us to collect
  • Your address
  • A contact telephone number
  • Whether someone will be available to help our team safely move the items into the van

Our email is checked Monday and Wednesday to Friday. We’ll get back to you to let you know whether we can accept your items. Please don’t be offended if we have to politely decline — we can only collect items that we believe we’ll be able to sell through the Reuse Hub.

Collection times

Collections take place in two time slots:

  • Morning: 11am–1pm
  • Afternoon: 1pm–4pm

Unfortunately, we’re unable to provide a specific collection time within these slots, so please make sure someone is available throughout your agreed window.

We kindly ask for a donation towards your collection. Your contribution helps cover the cost of running our van and enables us to keep providing this service to the community.
