Giving pre-loved items a second chance

The Bavs Reuse Hub is on a mission to prevent unwanted furniture from ending up as waste. Based at Smith's Yard in Chirnside, our hub features a retail area where you'll find a great selection of pre-loved furniture, homeware, books, and more.

Our friendly team of staff and volunteers work hard to sort donations, price items, and keep the Hub looking its best — so whether you're looking for a bargain or dropping off a donation, you'll always get a warm welcome.

Join us and be part of the mission to reduce waste and give new life to pre-loved items.

What we do

A great place to find pre-loved items and get involved.

Donate & Resell

We accept pre-loved furniture, bric-a-brac, soft furnishings, books and more — and find them new homes.

Volunteer Opportunities

Learn new skills, build confidence and make new friends at the Reuse Hub. Whatever your experience, you'll find a welcoming place to get involved, learn and make a difference.

PAT Testing Service

Keep your electrical items safe and ready for use with our PAT testing service. Our friendly team can check your appliances, giving you confidence that they meet the required safety standards. Get in touch to book an appointment.

Collections & Deliveries

Can't get to us? We offer collections for larger items and deliver purchases to your door.

What we accept

All items must be clean, in good working order and ready for resale. Ask yourself "Would I buy this?" — if the answer is no, it's off to the recycling centre it goes.

We accept

  • Sofas (with fire safety labels)
  • Furniture — tables, chairs, wardrobes, chests of drawers
  • Soft furnishings — cushions, curtains, throws (with fire labels)
  • Bric-a-brac and ornaments
  • Books, DVDs, CDs and Vinyl
  • Household items and kitchenware
  • Small electricals (PAT tested)
  • White goods — washing machines, fridges, freezers

We cannot accept

  • Mattresses
  • Bedframes
  • TV units
  • Gas cookers
  • Upholstered items without fire safety labels
  • Clothing (please donate to our charity shops)
  • Damaged, heavily stained, or incomplete items
Not sure if we can take your item? Give us a ring on 01361 883137 before making the trip — we're always happy to help.

Arrange a Collection

Have furniture or household items you'd like to donate? We may be able to collect them from you.

To arrange a collection, email reuse@bavs.org.uk with:

  • Clear photos of the items you'd like us to collect
  • Your address
  • A contact telephone number
  • Whether someone will be available to help our team safely move the items into the van

Our email is checked Monday and Wednesday to Friday. We'll get back to you to let you know whether we can accept your items. Please don't be offended if we have to politely decline — we can only collect items that we believe we'll be able to sell through the Reuse Hub.

Email reuse@bavs.org.uk

Collection times

Collections take place in two time slots:

Morning: 11am – 1pm
Afternoon: 1pm – 4pm

Unfortunately, we're unable to provide a specific collection time within these slots, so please make sure someone is available throughout your agreed window.

Supporting our collection service

We kindly ask for a donation towards your collection. Your contribution helps cover the cost of running our van and enables us to keep providing this service to the community.

Thank you for choosing to reuse — your donations help give good-quality items a new home while supporting the work of the Reuse Hub.

Our collection van

We collect across the local area — get in touch to arrange a pickup.
